sketchy pocket card

sometimes, when you see a sketch, do you immediately know how you want to interpret it? i usually don't. in fact, part of what i like about sketches, is the way they're sort of like crafty jigsaw puzzles; and a lot of the fun for me is finding the "pieces" that represent each bit of the sketch. but every once in awhile i see a sketch that just HITS ME...and i know exactly what i want to do...even down to the products i will use. this one of diana's from sketchy thursdays was like that:

it was the half circle up at the top that grabbed me. i saw it and immediately thought, "POCKET CARD!" (which is odd in itself because i cannot remember the last time i made one of those!!!):

(patterned paper: prima, basic grey, paper co + scraps of transparency + vintage ledger +hindi newspaper; glossy cardstock: ranger; rub-ons: my mind's eye, fancy pants; felt ribbon: k&co; brad: making memories; flowers: michaels (tinted with glimmer mist & highlighted with stickles); pearls: kaiser; label die: nestabilities; adhesives: uhu gluestick, tombow monorunner, 3m foam tape)

the last time i was at my lss, i picked up these new prima papers, and i've been dying to use 'em, so they were the obvious choice. i actually thought the frame would hold some butterflies cut from the prima "flights of fancy" paper...but that sweet little bird flitted in from a pack of my mind's eye rub-ons, instead.

the inside panel was already pretty fancy, so i didn't really need to do much there besides affix some felt ribbon as a pull. all the same, i couldn't resist a few more rub-ons at the bottom edge!

i am almost positive this will be my s-i-l's birthday card, but that's still a few weeks away, and one of the things i've learned is that it's wiser to leave a thematically neutral card greeting-less until i'm actually READY to send it. because i can always ADD the "happy birthday" at the last minute...but it's hard to remove if i suddenly need a "get well" or "thinking of you" card! one thing of which i'm certain: this is not the last pocket--or sketchy thursday!--card i will make!!! :)

  7. I am liking that sketch, but I love your take on it even more! One day I hope you will take pictures and blog your stash. It seems you have bits & bobs for every possible theme and color. The added rub-ons on the insert is inspired. Love that too :) In summary, a perfectly lovely Lauren-y card!
