shape up... with cupcakes!

the very first shopping our stash challenge of 2017 is a good one! for "shape up" we'd like to see projects of any type... BUT... they can't be rectangular, square or round! so if you've been thinking about heart-shaped valentines, or egg-shaped easter cards, or flower-shaped birthday cards, this would be a great time to test-drive those ideas. or you could make a couple of cupcake-shaped cards, like this:

patterned paper: sei, creative imaginations, sassafras, plus textured white cardstock of unknown origin (i *think* the paper co?) and regular core'dinations red; ink: colorbox; adhesives: elmers brand gluetape, 3m foam tape, sewing machine

i confess that i was momentarily stumped for this one. and then i found a template i made years and years ago (srsly... 2009?!) for an oversized cupcake card and the lightbulb went on. these new cupcake cards are smaller than the original template (to fit in a 6" square envelope) and they just open at the top like an ordinary card (the whipped cream & heart/cherry hide the card's flat hinge) but if you want to see the original, i even wrote my very first tutorial (of sorts) to explain it, lol! these guys are seriously old-stash-using as well: not only are all three patterned papers out of print by mannnnny years, the three companies have all gone out of business. which is rather sad, actually, i'm sorry i brought it up now...

need some more shape-centric inspiration? c'mon over to SOS and check out the DT projects. then put on your thinking cap and "shape up" with us! ♥

  1. Lauren, what a sweet pair of cupcake cards, love the colors and the details on each of them, specially the way you hid the hinge on both.
Do I see stitching on the icing and bottom of the cupcake? I always forget what a beautiful detail adding stitching to your cards give to the design.
    Awesome job.

  4. Your stitching is so admirable. Love the papers you chose (though I thought they were Lauren Originals!) Didn't know Creative Imaginations was out of business.

  5. Hey, Lady! Of course the Queen of Collage would create a project that looks so simple but incorporates multiple shapes and forms a wonderful silhouette! Shapes within shapes even on your pattern papers. You are an artiste!
