as promised: the birthday girl...

...miss lindsay marie, wearing her flower scarf, at her *SEVENTH* birthday party on saturday night! (♥♥♥!)

i am pleased to say that it was a BIG HIT, as was the fancy giftbag i made :

i realize it seems kind of crazy to spend a lot of time of giftwrapping, but i actually ♥LOVE♥ doing it; and also happen to be surrounded by children who are amazingly appreciative and excited about such things. all three nieces look forward to getting a fancy package and a handmade card on their birthdays, and have started (at ages 6, 7 & 8) to ask how certain things are done... what sort of paper i use, how do i make the little butterflies, and so forth. even young matthew noticed and enjoyed that the outside of his present had CARS ON IT, and knew that the bag with the decorations was NOT the part he was allowed to rip into! (realizing that THE RIPPING is a big part of birthday gift pleasure, i always make sure the presents inside the bag are wrapped inexpensively and can be shredded with abandon!) you may also have noticed that the bags i decorate have the vast majority of their decoration--including, in the case of the one above, the "happy birthday lindsay" greeting--on a panel which is attached by only a couple of pieces of foam tape. this is so that it can be converted into a sign for the birthday girl to hang on her bedroom door...because who amongst us would not like to make the party last jussssst a little bit longer?! :)

  1. Miss Lindsay is looking quite divine sporting her beautiful new birfday scarth (sorry, couldn't help myself). Your gift bag is so fun and what a terrific idea to create it with dual purposes. Lovely gift, Lauren!

  4. Soo cool (the scarf and the bag) and of course you've thought through the second use of the bag (though, I'm sure they'd love carrying it around too).

    Who's the best Aunt ever?

BTW - she is too cute.

  8. The scarf is beautiful and she looks so pretty in it! She also looks like she adores it and that's a wonderful feeling. yes, it is great when they notice the effort you put into their presents while still allowing them some kid acknowledgement (the rippable packaging). That gift bag is beautiful, btw.

Love your enthusiasm and creativity, it shines through in your projects and your posts and is a pleasure to read!

  11. Well of course they were big hits! First, just by virtue of being made by the coolest aunt EVAH, second - because they both rock!
You are quite the multi-talented crafty girl!

  12. That is so cute! Look how happy she is! I would be too, to score such an awesome scarf. It looks so adorable on her. No one on the playground's going to have the same scarf and she's totally going to get noticed for having the prettiest princessy colored scarf there ever was!
