SOS104: *NO* patterned paper???!?!

can ya *feel* the panic in my title? because yeah, no matter how many times i do one of these cardstock only challenges... at shopping our stash, or anywhere else... every single time, my first reaction is, "omg--what can i even DO for this??!" which is exactly why i love this kind of challenge, because it really IS challenging, in the positive, let's-think-outside-the-box, kind of way! which is sort of the point of challenges, no?

having said that, for this card i did something i rarely do, which is get an entire set of ingredients "laid out" and ready to glue up... and then pretty much ditch every single one of them and start over!* i think it was worth the effort and the false start, however, because i really like how this (eventually!!!) came out:

(cardstock: core'dinations; embossing folder: cuttlebug; plain white chipboard letters: all my memories (adorned with a frankensteined fancy pants rub-on flourish); pink fabric thickers: american crafts; florals: prima; tiny plush duckie: mambi; adhesives: staples brand gluetape runner, 3m foam tape, hot glue, sewing machine)
my first card had the same basic layout (using different alphas); it featured the same paisley cuttlebug embossing folder and sanded "whitewash" cardstock... however the (hand-cut) letters were embossed and the background featured rub-ons-- so basically the reverse of this card. even the assortment of pink prima flowers were included... but they were in their original state, which was a sort of tall "branch" arrangement, that i absolutely loved... but for some reason i could not make the shape work, so i ruthlessly grabbed my wirecutters and with a bit of a nervous gulp, i snipped that thing down into its component parts! which turned out to be the right thing to do, luckily. :)

this card is for my newest friend, tegan, who is not quite three weeks old. she is the second granddaughter of two of jeff's and my oldest friends (they were both in our WEDDING, in 1985!!!) and apart from the fact that it is kind of freakin' me out that her mama is even old enough to *BE* a mama (how did THAT happen??!) i am very verrrrrrrry happy and excited to be making the first of many cards and gifts for her adorable little self! ♥♥♥

and now won't you hop over to SOS and see what my lovely DT-mates have concocted for your delight this morning? then start plotting and planning what kind of card ♥YOU♥ could make using any theme, any colors, any layout you like... but leaving off the patterned paper! good luck, darlings!

*and yeah, in retrospect, i totally should've photo-ed the first layout for you to see, but at the time i was so far behind in getting my card ready for the SOS blog, that i didn't even think of it until it was too late. sorry. :0

  1. rub-ons on the letters? SO SMART!

  2. Wow!! Your rocked this one! LOVE it!

  3. Frankensteined...I really have to remember that as a verb. So useful!
Heck, I'm a great-aunt, and I don't feel old enough to have a niece old enough to be a mom, so I hear ya. I love how you used the flower in place of the O, and the incredibly fun little plush duckie? Squee!

  4. No patterned paper needed!! It's gorgeous! Love it.

  5. Beautiful, and adorable...she is going to LOVE it...I do!!

  6. Hit it out of the park again! Awesome project. Love the pinkiness of it all too!

  7. This is so utterly amazing and so LAUREN!! I love it. Cardstock only challenges always make me nervous. :)
