inside matthew's book (part one)

ok, so yesterday i showed you the outside of the club scrap wired book project i made for nephew matthew as part of the current CAARDVARKS 3-D challenge, depth perception. today, let's take a peek inside. (since there are 12 pages of big honkin' photos, i'm going to split this over two days, lest we all get carpal tunnel from scrolling ever downwards!)

matthew on his first birthday, september 2008

(patterned paper: sassafras, imagination project; metallic name sticker: mambi; decorative cloth tape: imagination project; ribbon: michaels; other: colorbox inks, zig pen; adhesives: xyron, tombow monoadhesive runner, uhu gluestick, 3m foam tape; see closeup below for circle ingredients)

when i started choosing photos for the book, i realized that i had a few really excellent shots from all different occasions over the last 20 months, and i thought it would be fun to put them all together in a sort of *favorites* album. rather than do traditional/specific journaling for each one, i found a cute little poem on this site, and used it as a framework to tie everything together.

Little Boys
Little boys come in all shapes and sizes,
Shy and adventurous, full of surprises,
With misshapen halos and mischievous grins,
Small dirty faces, and sweet, sticky chins.
They'll keep you so busy, and yet all the while
Nothing can brighten the world like their smile.
And no greater treasure has brought homes more joy
Than a curious, active, and lovable boy!

since the book itself is so very colorful, i used b&w photos, which i photoshopped a bit and framed before printing out. for additional consistency, i also matted every picture on black patterned paper, inked the edges of every page and every bit of patterned paper in black, and outlined and or doodled on most of my patterned paper. i tried to keep my pages quite flat (always a challenge for me!) so i mostly stuck with strips or elements cut from patterned paper, with a just few embellishments here and there.

before i show the pages, here is a closeup of the circle embellishment from the front cover, by special request of miss stephanie! i didn't happen to have a pre-made embellie i loved, so i just took bunch of small circle elements and layered them on top of each other. i think it's pretty...as the button says...fun! :)

(stacked circles, from center out: love, elsie epoxy sticker; scrapworks metal concho; provocraft cardstock bullseye sticker; heidi swapp ghost clock; imagination project coaster ring)

and now the pages:
