friend or faux?

we want to see the latter at shopping our stash this week; in honor of april fool's day, we're looking to see cards and projects which feature a faux technique of some sort OR which have a hidden or tricky element. sound like fun? we thought so too! here's what i made:

plain tan cardstock: core'dinations; inks: ranger distress and archival, versamark embossing, plus viva inka gold in silver and a few gelatos in metallic shades; glossy black cardstock: paper accents; loads of vintage bits from my collection; embossing folder and charm: tim holtz; twine: doodlebug; feather: michaels; adhesives: elmers brand gluetape, scotch gluestick, sewing machine

i decided to try out a cool faux patina technique i found on splitcoast stampers, which was very clear and easy to follow. i don't think mine came out quiiiiiiiite as well as the example, but it does look like aged metal, so i'm callin' it a win. also, as happens every time i use one of my (many, cool) embossing folders, it made me think, "i should emboss more" lol!

once i had such a gorgeously distressed panel, i decided it really needed some more vintage accoutrements to hang out with. i found a super-fun vintage photo of an old british car in one of my funky ephemera boxes that i thought would make a nice focal point. after that, it seemed like a no-brainer to add in other travel-themed bits. when i saw this week's layout (#209) at retro sketches, i knew EXACTLY how to arrange my treasures!

there's loads more inspiration awaiting you at SOS... why not hop over and check that out right now?! ♥

  1. No SOS needed here - your design definitely doesn't need any help. Although I might need some help picking my jaw up off the floor. Wowzas - this is INCREDIBLE and totally now adorns my Pin board. <3
