how do you decide whether to do a side- or top-fold card?

i ask because i only realized last night, midway through what i'm sure by now must be my elebenty-seventh consecutive year of card-making, that i consistently do a side-fold by default, a top-fold when i have an offcut of cardstock that needs using up, and a reverse side-fold (the infamous "left-handed greeting card" lol!) only when i am very, very tired. :)

this one's a top-fold, and thus represents one less leftover 12x4.5" piece of kraft in my cardstock caddy. big win!!!

(patterned paper: crate, echo park; chipboard tree stickers: recollections; border stickers: my mind's eye; sentiment rub-on: making memories; poinsettia: we r memory keepers; twine: doodlebug; lace: vintage, from m'stash; ink: colorbox; adhesives: staples brand gluetape runner, 3m foam tape, sewing machine)

may i say for the record that those sparkly patterned trees might just represent my all-time favorite holiday stickers? they are michaels' store brand, i've gone through AT LEAST 5 or 6 packs of them in the last few years, and i'm certain i will continue to purchase and enjoy them for however long they continue being made! i almost always use the whole pack of 3 at a time... but then... i almost always buy them when they're on a 40% off sale... so i think i'm still up on the deal, fiscally-speakin'!

my layout is based on kimber mcgray's 12.1 saturday card sketch at two peas in a bucket:

i used this week's gorgeous holiday palette (#221) from color throwdown:

and i think that's about all i have to say for the moment, except to wish you a very happy and productive weekend! ciao for now, darlings! ♥

  1. This is so beautiful! I love those trees!

  2. Those trees are M's stickers? They are gorgeous!

    Reverse side crack me up!

this is an interesting question...I always do TOP folds.

    Super love your card today...

  3. The thing I will keep buying that way are the teeny Jolee's dimensional Christmas lights on a string. I LOVE THOSE. I buy all they have, every year. I love those trees - and what a great layout for them :)
As for folding...I always do top-fold. Easier to photograph, and easier to set up on my market table (without having card-dominoes going on). I pre-cut all my bases and do about half & half.

  4. This is sooooooooooooo pretty! Love the look of the trees....fab!

  5. Nothing prettier than a sparkly tree and these are wonderful! Love the design you used on here too! Fantastic card!

  6. Such a fun holiday card! The bling is perfect!

  7. Such a cute card. The bling on your trees looks festive and wonderful. I almost always do a side fold. I don't know why. But every once in a while I will do a top fold. That really doesn't explain a lot now does it. Wishing you a happy weekend..

  8. I am forever a top fold girl ... not sure why, but likely because I like to even up both sides. Love those pretty little trees ... must look for them next time I'm at M's.

  9. Love the trees! Why can YOU make stickers look good, while mine look like ... stickers?

As for the fold, I prefer the top-fold for taking pictures, but because of how OWH needs the cards put into envelopes, I've been making side-fold lately. I call the top-fold "left-handed" cards, since they are definitely lefty-friendly for writing on the inside. :)

  10. I plan on hitting up Michael's and J's after Christmas and hoping for some reduced clearanced Christmas stickers stuff! :) This card turned out fab.

  11. OMG...what beautiful sparkly Christmas trees...this is sooo pretty!!!! Thanks for joining us for the Color Throwdown Challenge!!!!
