SOS132: last of...

is it just me, or did 2014 just totally *FLY* by at breakneck speed?! well, whether or not you feel like the year went past more quickly than usual, i'm pretty sure you'll have to agree that this is the last day of it; which makes today's challenge at shopping our stash the last, as well. and thus, appropriately enough, we're asking you to create a project which incorporates the last of... something... whether it be the last brad in the package, the last little scrap of a beloved patterned paper, or, well, any little "last of" you'd like to name! i try pretty hard to *USE* the things i love instead of hoarding them, but sometimes it's hard, isn't it? especially with vintage items, i confess to feeling a pang when i get to the last of something i probably won't be able to replace any time soon. in this case, it's the vintage slide mount; i had half a dozen of them, and used the fifth of them well over a year ago, so this seemed like the perfect time to make a card for a special someone, which would obviously be completely worthy of the last one. and here it is:

(vintage: slide mount filled with a bit of old greeting card; xo paper made by using diecut letters as a mask on notebook paper and spraying with baby pink glimmer most; butterfly transparency: hambly; patterned paper: cosmo cricket; goddess sticker: papaya art; thickers: american crafts; tiny brad: queen and co; other: scrap of copier paper, manual typewriter; adhesives: staples brand gluetape runner, 3m foam tape, sewing machine)
my favorite part--with the exception of the slidemount, obviously-- is the "xoxo" patterned paper, which i made myself by laying some diecut letters on top of a piece of notebook paper, adding a light coating of spray ink, and then discarding the diecuts. then i topped the base with a scrap of pink butterfly-bedecked transparency, and sewed on the chipboard sentiment. here's a close-up of the slide mount and the focal image, which i trimmed down from an old greeting card:

and now i know you'd like to check out what my fellow SOS design team members have created for your inspiration, and start planning *YOUR* last card of 2013!

Beautiful job, love your bg paper you made. I have slide mounts in heavy paper but never knew what to do with them. Awesome idea.

Loving this card and all the details. So bright and springy. Refreshing to see in these bitter cold temperatures.

well, the first week of 2014 seems to have gone quickly anyway ;)
I really love the background - I have GOT to try that! And honestly, how you bring together such disparate elements to create ART just wows me every time :)
