not only is it a flat-out great sketch... (well, duh! 2S4Y doesn't do tat, now do they?!) ...as soon as i saw it, i knew that i wanted the card base to be a transparency, with the rectangular panel on the inside, and the "spine" and embellishments on the outside. and believe it or not, i stuck to my very first idea the whole way through!
(transparency: hambly; paper & diecuts: k&co madeline; journaling block: k&co amy butler; rub-on sentiment: autumn leaves; pearls and gems: kaiser; inks: colorbox; embroidery floss: dmc; adhesives: tombow mono runner, 3m foam tape)
one of the many things to love about k&co's madeline collection is that both the papers and the diecuts are double-sided, and thus the perfect choice for clear cards. just in case you thought i had forsaken hand-stitching now that i am machine-ready, au contraire! i love *BOTH*...and pretty equally, i think; in this case the soft colors seemed to cry out for the extra texture of embroidery floss. i used all 6 strands for a nice thick look and i think it's the perfect accent for the scallops and around the sentiment. (plus there is something so soothing about sitting for half an hour and handstitching, dontcha think?!)
here's a picture that shows a little better which bits are where. i've grouped the flowers and the sentiment pretty closely together in order to have a little "coverage" on the inside when the card is closed. that way i can write a my greeting (it's almost certainly a birthday card, but i like to hedge my bets!) and sign my name without it showing from the outside!
Your card is wonderful! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI bow down to you oh Princess Lauren...You cut into that gorgeous Hambly transparency...your card absolutely rocks the 2s4y sketch...wowza girlie...
ReplyDeleteoh its lovely. really pretty - the recipient will feel most treasured when they get this creation!
ReplyDeleteand now on that soothing 1/2 hour of hand sewing... i gotta pair of pants that need hemming....i'm jumping in the car right now so i may share the soothing aspects of this task :-) (can you tell i hate hemming? i've sewn drapes, the most ornate halloween costumes imagineable and have sewn on veritable REAMS of paper... but i detest hemming :-)) ... i should be there by 1ish...;-)
Absolutely AMAZING!

I LOVE THIS! Its so pretty. So very Lauren. I swear how is Caardvarks going to handle not having you the card master on there. I'm already missing your stuff on there so much. But if that means you'll do the weekly 2sketches more well.. then that'd be cool too! Gorgeous girlie!!!
