(patterned papers, large layered flower, pearl flourish: prima; metal filigree sticker: momenta; cardstock flower diecuts + glittery chipboard diecuts: k and co; border sticker: crate paper; vintage: lace and doily; adhesives: staples brand gluetape runner, 3m foam tape, low temp hot glue, sewing machine) |
one of my obstacles to using these gorgeous metal discs was that they somehow seemed too elegant to stick in the middle of a plain flat floral; whereas the oversized, fancier flowers already have their own centers. i resolved this by carefully removing the top layer of this gorgeous green prima bloom (which i saved for next time) and replacing it with the pretty filigree.
dang, that was EASY... why didn't i think of it sooner?! but then, if i had, i wouldn't have thought of it just in time to make a very kerrie-centric card for my cousin, so i've decided just to be happy right now! :)
a huge help in getting the placement and shabby chic vibe of this card the way i wanted it was the current cardabilities sketch (#93) with which i am *MOST* enamoured. can ya blame me? just look at that thing:
next up i bet you're as excited as i am to check out the amazing creations of my fellow SOS dt-members, so let's hop on over, darlings! ♥
This is just beautiful! Love the mix here.....perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour opening line about had me spitting out my tea from laughing! I love your card, Lauren! It is so pretty and girly! Great idea to MacGyver the paper flower with that gorgeous filigree one!
ReplyDeleteWOW on that flower center!! Gorgeous card to go right along with it too.
ReplyDeleteLynn
Gorgeous card, love the flower centers great use of the sketch too.
ReplyDeleteWell, now I'm disappointing. I was looking forward to doing my Metallica favorite--you know their song about cats? "Don't Shed on Me!"
ReplyDeleteI like your card very much and I like that it isn't all masculine and industrial. When I heard about this challenge I didn't there could be anything delicate and feminine AND metallic. You proved me wrong and thank you for that.
Hee hee hee now THAT would be an interesting take on Heavy Metal card making!!! Love how you've repurposed the flower with the metal centre!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooooo glad it's not based on heavy metal music because I don't know any!!!! *i am old*
ReplyDeleteI loooooooooove how you've modified the fleurs to make the gorjus metal filigrees work. WELL DONE!
Great idea to take apart the flower! That metal filigree is gorgeous, can't blame you for wanting them. That's a great sketch and you captured it beautifully! As always, a lovely card!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Michelle
Such an elegant and rich looking treasure you've created here. The filigree was worth saving, don'tcha think? Hugs, Kathy
